After Blade Runner 2019, we weren’t certain as to what former Blade Runner Aahna ‘Ash’ Ashina would go on to do next. With Andrew Selwyn dead, his daughter Cleo and replicant wife Isobel safely out of the way, it kind of seemed Ash had tied up all of her loose ends. Unfortunately for Ash, there remain ghostly loose ends from her past that will now loom large over her. After returning to Earth in 2027 from her eight years of living on an off-world mining colony, Ash headed straight to Los Angeles.

The City of Angels is home to the detective. Unsurprisingly, she has decided to remain and go back to her old life as a Blade Runner for the Los Angeles Police Department. However, the older, world-weary Ash isn’t the same as her 2019 self. Things are different now and she is a woman with ulterior motives. What havoc will this new chapter as a Blade Runner wreak for Ash? Blade Runner 2029 #1 prepares you for this new action packed journey with new characters, relationships, and raised stakes.

Taking the reigns as the solo writer for Blade Runner 2029 as Michael Green moves on to become a Creative Consultant, Mike Johnson moves full steam ahead with the next chapter of Ash's story. Not only was Green a Co-Writer and Co-Creator of the Blade Runner 2019 comic series, but he has also written and co-written various screenplays for film and television including Logan, Blade Runner 2049, and Alien: Covenant. It appears Green is going to be focused on a Netflix original animated series titled Blue Eye Samurai for which he is Co-Creator, Executive Producer, and Writer.

Mike Johnson isn’t left to flounder on his own as this premiere issue makes it clear that there is still a great amount of story to be told for our favorite Blade Runner. The fantastic duo of artist Andres Guinaldo and colorist Marco Lesko are back as well with their powerhouse of skills that will instantly immerse you into the Blade Runner world. With this trio, we should hope to dive into Blade Runner for years to come.
