COMICS REVIEW: "Captain Marvel #5" Conclusion of "Re-entry"

Cover A Regular art by Amanda Conner and Paul Mounts

Previously in Captain Marvel, Nuclear Man has shown up in New York and kidnapped a young reporter named Ripley Ryan just as Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) was about to do an interview. Carol went after them, and now she and others are trapped inside of some sort of barrier in a post-apocalyptic wasteland of Roosevelt Island. Carol, Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, Echo, and Hazmat now lead an army of women to try and defeat Nuclear Man and his plans of building an empire of male dominance.

Captain Marvel #5 released on May 8th, 2019, and the conclusion to this five part series titled "Re-entry" is explosive. Written by Kelly Thompson with artist Carmen Carnero, this issue shows us what happens after Carol lets Rogue absorb her powers along with her consciousness. Nuclear Man pits the two former nemeses against each other and expected them to fight to the death in order to choose which woman he would "take as his bride." This guy makes your skin crawl.

The artwork in this issue is brilliant. Color artist Tamra Bonvillain brings vibrancy to an ominous wasteland; it's beautiful and eerie. The writing is on point. Thompson brings such humor to Carol's might. Will this team of incredibly strong women defeat the misogynistic monster? Go pick it up at your local comic shop and find out!

Don't miss Captain Marvel next in War of the Realms due out on June 5, 2019.
