Gray Hulk battles Santa in this Christmas Retro Cover Of The Week from 1991.

The Incredible Hulk Vol 1 #378, 1991, Marvel Comics, Cover by Bill Jaaska and Bob McLeod.

POP continues its examination and celebration of iconic comic covers from the 1960s through the 2000s, this week returning to the Nineties, for this month’s next edition of a Christmas POP Retro Cover Of The Week.

The Nineties were a whacky, very creative, sometimes-green/sometimes gray time for the Hulk, highlighted by the imaginative run by Peter David. Who else would have the audacity to pit Gray Hulk against the Jolly Old Elf Himself?

There really isn’t much analysis needed for this fun Bill Jaaska/Bob McLeod cover, featuring an in-your-face slugfest between GrayHulk and a crowbar-wielding Santa, a foe described in cover banners as THE MOST REQUESTED VILLAIN OF ALL! Their battle is so earth-shattering that it’s destroying one of the cover elements, the comic title logo.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah from the POP Retro Cover Of The Week!

Next week: A Christmas cover from the 2000s!
