Here we go with issue #4 of Killadelphia and havoc is just getting started. Writer Rodney Barnes holds nothing back as undead former president John Adams unleashes his plan for world domination onto the City of Brotherly Love. In issue #3, John Adams regales us with his personal narrative about how he went from being a freshly defeated former U.S. President to a vampire with a cause in the present day. While on a mission trip with his wife Abigail in the Caribbean, he is overtaken by a vampire horde. Upon coming to, Adams is given a book said to contain answers to several of the mysteries of human existence. He could rule the world with it, well, if he can decipher the ancient text within. It is his decision to turn Abigail as well. Together, the pair move on with creating a new society, one balanced with the underprivileged and the elite.
Meanwhile, vampire Detective James Sangster, his son J.J. and coroner friend Jose are well aware of Adams's plans. They have no idea how to go about stopping him which brings further tension to the trio. Sangster has only been in his new "condition" for a few days now, freshly reeling and struggling with what he wishes he could do to rid himself of it, and the responsibility he continues to have on this earth. Elsewhere in town, an old foe of the detective appears to have his own vision on what the new society should be about. How exactly this person plans to go about making it so, we will see in the 5th issue.
Jason Shawn Alexander and Luis NCT once again outshine their own work. With each subsequent issue, they bring to life horrific and violent art that is simultaneously captivating and gruesome. I love the nuances within the coloring itself, with moments of introspection, discourse, and manic panic assigned their own color stories. Issue #5 is sure to be a big part of the story and that will be out towards the end of March 2020.
Killadelphia: Sins of the Father, Part 4 is published by Image Comics and is on sale February 26, 2020.
