The POP Cover Of The Week is a Spring Scare from Diablo House and a Friend. Richard Friend.

Diablo House: Spring Scares (One Shot), Clover Press, Cover by Richard Friend.

This week’s POP Cover Of The Week features the penciling cover art (and interior art) debut of longtime fan favorite inker Richard Friend, announcing the re-opening of Diablo House, where all your dreams can come true, if you’re willing to pay the price.

Friend’s uber-creepy cover features a supernatural creature sitting in the dark on a throne composed of human skulls, bones, and tentacles. The creature itself is made up of animal skulls, bones, and wearing an inverted cross around its neck. The horns of its crown seem to be the vertebrated skeletons of long snakes. Colored in the muted blue-grays of death, the figure, throne, and even the comic title logo are splashed with blood.

Speaking of the title logo, it is designed in a wonderfully appropriate gothic font, with little touches like devil horns and Aztec death coins. All the other text on the cover trade dress is hand-scribbled for an edgy effect to this very creepy-cool, Dia de los Muertos-feeling POP Cover Of The Week.

Diablo House: Spring Scares (One Shot), from Clover Press is available May 6, 2020.
