The POP Cover Of The Week is a WWII beauty: Wonder Woman #750

Wonder Woman #750, DC Comics, Cover by Adam Hughes.

This POP Cover Of The Week is one of many variants being released this week to commemorate issue #750 of Wonder Woman.

They are all beautiful, but the one that stood out to me the most was Adam Hughes’ WWII version. Hughes has posed her post-battle with a pile of defeated Nazis.

It’s not just the brazen pose in her vintage eagle-emblazoned WWII costume as she strides through the middle of a battlefield that makes this cover for me, but it’s all the little details and the coloring that makes it so spectacular. Hughes expertly captures the highlights that the bomb burst to the left casts onto her figure. The muted evening tones, the atmospheric, blueish shades in the background make her pop in contrast. The silhouettes of the Allied planes in the sky, the upended tanks with their handtwisted turrets, the awesome fist imprint on the Nazi’s helmet.

Even the trade dress goes vintage, with the original Wonder Woman logo, and old DC emblem.

If you’re lucky, you might be able to grab this POP Retro Cover Of The Week when Wonder Woman #750 goes on sale Wednesday, January 22, 2020.
